Spring Break
So this week is Shawn's Spring Break and he's staying with me all week. Also just happens that tomorrow is his Birthday so we're trying to figure out what to do for his birthday. My hats off to all the single moms cause I know it's very tough trying to keep up with one, two or more kids by yourselves. Shawn and my roommates son have been playing all day and just having a grand time. My roommate took Shawn to soccer practice with his son and came home and asked why Shawn wasnt in some sorta after school program. That made me think. Shawn had been involved with an afterschool program when Jennie lived on the other side of town before but mostly because it was close to school and wasn't too expensive. The last year, it was pretty near impossible seeing as it took Jennie an hour and a half to get back to anywhere near the apartment and his school after getting off of work in the afternoons. Now that they've moved closer to her work and shawna and donnies school and daycare will be within a few miles of her office, maybe we'll be able to get him invovled with soccer.
Dave says he's real good at it and I could tell by the huge smile on his face and how much he talked about it that he really enjoyed himself. That settled the birthday present issue, I'm picking him up a soccer ball tomorrow morning.
It kinda sucks that I'll have to work tomorrow though. I'm thinking maybe I should have gone in today and taken tomorrow off so that I could have spent the day with him on his birthday. I've already been warned to expect calls around 3 something in the morning which is when Jennie's family typically starts calling to wish him a happy birthday. Maybe I'll just leave the phone in his room.
I'd also like to thank my roommate for the brilliant suggestion that we move the playstation and one of the DVD players into the guest room upstairs so they could play and we could keep an eye on them. It was great idea but putting them in the room right next to mine was a brilliant move on his part. We have one of those dancepad games and imagine if you will two 7-8 yr olds stomping around while you're trying to rest or do some work. Of course, I wasn't doing either, I was chatting with my girlfriend on line and trying to watch a movie but it was really loud and felt like they were pounding directly on my head. I figured maybe I got him back just a little by hanging Shawn's punching bag his granny got him in the doorway of the room next to his. No contest, the punching bag doesn't make enough noise and they generally end up punching it right off the hinges inside a minute or two anyway. I guess he wins round one. I have to go back to work tomorrow and he's gonna hang with the kids the rest of the week so I guess that means I win round 2-12, TKO baby. I wish I could take the week off but I get to see my little man everyday when I get home this week. I know one day when he gets older he'll want to spend less and less time with me but I'm enjoying the here and now. He came in a few minutes ago just to give me a kiss on the head. That is love.
