I left my heart in San Francisco.....
Well, that and the rest of my body which will be there for the next three weeks. It seems that our customer there whose system is already 6 years out of date was owed some training by the consultants that originally sold it to them. It works out great for my company who will make a pretty penny even after flying me out for three weeks and flying my family out for a weekend. So yep, The Syrens are coming to San Francisco. We are really looking forward to it as we'll have a whole weekend to run around the city and take a trip to Alcatraz and hopefully meet some of the wonderful friends we've made over the years.
My trip will begin Sunday and I'll be there for a solid two weeks before I get to sleep in my bed again for two nights. Why only two nights??? Because they've ordered four weeks of training and I'm the only person that can do three of those weeks. I tried to get them to send someone else for at least a week but the only other qualified person wasn't available so I made them a trade. I'll do all three weeks but you fly my family out to see me on one of the weekends. Not a bad deal if I say so myself. I've been to San Fran a few times over the years but this will be our first family vacation and since it falls on a holiday weekend I will be off Friday-Monday and we'll got a whole three days to roam the city.
So anybody have any ideas on what we should do or try to see? We're definitely going to Alcatraz, I bought the tickets this morning.
Hope everyone is having an awesome New Year so far.

Whatever you do, don't let anyone talk you into the bike ride from Fisherman's Wharf, along the coast, thru Golden Gate Park and back. Your legs will regret it forever. :-)
Golden Gate Park, however, is a nice stroll. Lots to see and very pedestrian friendly. Wear your walking shoes!
Otherwise we pretty much spent our time drinking and dining.
Happy New Year Kim,
I dont think you have to worry about us doing any bikerides. With an 8y/o and a 4month old in tow we're sticking to the walking or riding routes...lol. I want to think I've beeen to Golden Gate Park but it could have been the Presidio that I strolled through last time. We'll definitely have to check them both out though. It is such a beautiful city.
Please take notes on how to travel by plane witha baby. We will have to do so in July and I am not looking forward to it!
Sooooo jealous of the San Fran peeps that get to see the baby and Ryan!
How fun! I lvoe SF. (Though, the first time I saw The Golden Gate I was quite dissapointed that *it* wasn't painted gold. I've learned since that it was so named for the sight of the pass in the mountains in the sunlight. But, what do kids know. Prepare the boys.)
Definitely do Fisherman's Warf. Best? Do it the last day and have them pack up some fresh fish to carry home with you.
And (I'm guessing it still works like it used to), if you do it really early the boys can see the delivery and set-up. (Prolly not something you want to wake the baby up for. But, it could create some memories and be an education for the older ones.)
Have fun!
I have an idea... take me with you too! ;-)
Seriously, I've never been there, so have no advice.
We'd love to take you with us Nutzy. I can't believe my company sprung for three tickets already and my good friend is coming along also on my frequent flyer miles. I've been there several times but this will be special since I'll have the family with me.
Take the elevator to the top of Ginger's office building for the fabulous view. See the seals by the wharf. Take a cable car ride. Drive down that curvy Lombard Street. Have fun!
Drop me an email...I grew up out there so we can discuss options.
Definitely take the boys to the Exploratorium. It has great hands on stuff.
Careful in Golden Gate Park. I just went in December - parts of it are overrun with drug dealers and miscreants.
The wharf is the obvious tourist place, as is Alcatraz. If you can get the kids to behave, take a cruise to Salsalito..it's a cute boutique-y town on the other site of the GOlden Gate.
Coit Tower has a gorgeous view of the entire city. And it's close to North Beach (Little Italy) and the infamous Lombard Street.
And if you have a sitter and want to get SEX-y, head to The Power Exchange. ;-) lol
this sounds awesome! i hope you guys have fun with yet another peep meet! :)
