Bum Rushing
or rushing bums. I flew to Melbourne this afternoon for work and will be here till Thursday. The rental company gave me a free upgrade to a Cadillac CTS. Very fancy car but I've got to figure out how to change the preselects for the drivers seat. I sit down in the car and turn the key and it tries to compress me from 5'10 to about 5'2.
So back to the bumrushing... I was driving around trying to get my bearings and figure out where I might get a bite to eat. Whenever I travel I always get the little GPS thingy to tell me where to go and how to get there. I was just driving around and not really paying any attention to where I actually was because I could always just plug the hotels address back in the GPS to go home. Well, I did that and started heading down some side road towards the hotel I presumed. Of course, I'd gone off the beaten path so I had to make several turns and go down several side streets before getting back to the main street. I came to a stop at a railroad and looked both ways before proceeding. While I was looking a homeless man smoking a cigarette started waving at me to come over I guess. Well I dont know anyone down here and definitely dont know any homeless folks here so I just kinda looked at him puzzled when he started heading in my direction. Not sure what to think, I proceeded toward the light across the tracks. I should also mention that I was on the phone with my wife at this time and was narrating for her the scene. Well, when I got to the light which was only 50 yards from the tracks, I noticed that the homeless guy was still coming towards the car. Seeing as it appeared that he was determined to either come tell me something, come ask me for something or just come do something, I decided to go off course again and just take the quick right at the light because as I told Tara , a bum is chasing me. She thought it was pretty funny. I wasn't really sure what to think but I wasn't too interested in finding out what he wanted either.
So , did I overreact?

I don't think you overreacted. I bet he wanted some money from the guy in the fancy schmancy car!
Melbourne, Australia?
LOL at the bum rushing! What an odd situation. Maybe your fancy car was stinking up the neighborhood and he was chasing you out.
One of these days I'm going to get GPS when I rent. I need to get familiar with the technology.
lol...maybe you're both right. I was in Melbourne florida btw. Next stop, chicopee massachusetts.
I thought you were going to say that he wanted to warn you about an oncoming train.
